Brief:

We were contacted by one of the church wardens as he had seen one of our vans in the area. A former member of the congregation had developed a plan to create a Garden of Remembrance in a long disused corner of the churchyard, which was overrun with  brambles.Having approached two other companies for pricing, which were poles apart, we, Boardman Gelly, were invited to tender and advise on the best course of action.

Project:

The design centred around a Celtic cross shaped pathway, leading to a lawned area where ashes could be buried, space for bench seating, and a brick wall for memorial plaques.Working with the church, addressing questions from church leaders and members of the congregation helped to ensure that the project felt very inclusive. The planned works needed to wait until the after the bird nesting season and sympathetically carried around existing graves and headstones in the churchyard.

The final element of the garden was the new planting, given space to mature over the years, bringing colour, scent and shape. Working with a small team of two over four short weeks the area was transformed from a bramble wilderness to a welcoming, peaceful space for people to remember those we have lost.
